Parkes Radio Telescope

This world-famous radio telescope located in New South Wales, Australia near the town of Parkes has been used for numerous astronomy research projects as well as during space missions including Apollo 11, where it famously helped to receive TV signals broadcast by Armstrong and Aldrin during the first manned lunar landing and moonwalk.

The telescope is located at latitude 33° 00' S, longitude 148° 16' E, elevation 1,230 feet. The official name is the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) Parkes Radio Telescope.
