The Blue Mountains of Australia

These scenic mountains and rugged cliffs, separated by deep valleys, are located to the west and north of Sydney. They are home to native birds and other wildlife, including kangaroos and koalas, and to the eucalyptus trees on which the koalas feed.

As you can see, the views of the mountains from Echo Point on this day were not the best due to cloud cover. See additional photos from Eric's 2001 visit to the Blue Mountains.

The mountains are somewhat reminiscent of the Blue Mountains in Eric's native state of Pennsylvania, but the vegetation is different. In Australia, a blue haze over the mountains can be produced by eucalyptus oils in the air!
